Fish oil for dogs: compare products by EPA and DHA

When you shop for fish oil for dogs, look at EPA plus DHA per serving, not the "fish oil" milligrams on the front. That figure tells you how much of the useful omega-3 your dog actually gets. The table below ranks products by it, using manufacturer label data only.

Fish oil for dogs is sold as liquids, softgels and chews, and the labels are hard to compare. One bottle says "1000 mg," another gives a teaspoon, a third counts pumps. This page puts the label numbers side by side so you can see what each serving contains. For any of them, the amount that matters is the EPA and DHA a serving delivers. If you are unsure what those two are, start with omega-3 for dogs.
We do not show prices, and affiliate links do not change the order. The table is sorted by a label number. See how we compare for the method.
Fish oil for dogs: all products with published EPA and DHA
This table lists every dog-labeled product in our catalog whose maker publishes EPA and DHA, sorted by EPA+DHA per serving. Serving sizes differ, so a higher number per serving can simply mean a larger serving. Use the next table for liquids.

Liquid fish oil for dogs, ranked per mL
A milliliter is the same everywhere, which makes it the fairest way to compare liquids. For a teaspoon we use 4.93 mL, and for a pump the milliliters the maker states.

Label data from manufacturer websites and published label text, checked October 13, 2026. How we compare.
How to read the table
- EPA+DHA per serving is the number to compare. For example, Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet (liquid, dogs) lists 621 mg per serving, while Nutri-Vet Fish Oil Softgels for Dogs lists 300 mg per softgel.
- EPA+DHA per mL shows concentration in liquids. A more concentrated oil needs a smaller serving for the same EPA and DHA.
- Serving is what the maker calls one serving, which may be larger or smaller than what your dog needs.
- NASC seal shows "Yes" only when the maker states it. A dash means we have not confirmed it either way.
- Dog-only or dog and cat: some products are labeled for both species. We use the dog directions only.
A product with a higher number is not automatically a better choice. A small dog may need a fraction of a serving of a strong oil, and a large dog may need several softgels of a weaker one. The number tells you how to compare, and your dog's weight tells you how much.
How much EPA and DHA does a dog need?
A board-certified veterinary nutritionist has published 50 to 75 mg of combined EPA and DHA per kg of body weight per day for adult dogs, as a suggested supplemental amount. The article itself notes there is no consensus on the best way to dose. A separate safe upper limit from the National Research Council is about 370 mg times body weight in kg to the power of 0.75, and it counts EPA and DHA from the food too. These are reference figures, not instructions for your dog. Please ask your vet.

Products without published EPA/DHA we could find
These products are sold for dogs, but we could not find EPA and DHA amounts for them on the maker's website. Without them we cannot compare or rank the product, so we list it here instead of guessing. If a maker adds the numbers later, the product moves into the tables above.
- Grizzly Krill Oil: the maker lists total phospholipid omega-3 but not separate EPA and DHA (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Iceland Pure Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil (33 fl oz): the maker lists total omega-3 but not separate EPA and DHA (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Native Pet Omega Oil (8 fl oz): the maker's supplement panel is an image and its text gives no EPA and DHA amounts (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Native Pet Sockeye Salmon Oil (8 fl oz): we could not find EPA and DHA amounts on the maker's website (checked 2026-10-13) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Natural Dog Company Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil: the maker's pages give marketing text only; the only EPA and DHA figures we saw came from a retailer listing (checked 2026-10-13) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- NaturVet Omega-Gold Soft Chews Plus Salmon Oil (dogs and cats): we could not read the maker's page; the only EPA and DHA figures we saw came from retailers (checked 2026-10-13) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Nutri-Vet Fish Oil for Dogs (liquid, menhaden, 16 fl oz): the label we found gives omega-3 only as percentages, not mg per serving (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Paramount Pet Health Omega-3 Fish Oil for Cats & Small Dogs (2 fl oz dropper): the maker's page does not state the dropper volume, and its figures match the per-teaspoon values of the larger bottle (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Pet Honesty Omega-3 Fish Oil for Dogs and Cats (32 fl oz): the maker's pages list conflicting EPA and DHA figures without a defined serving (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Pet Honesty Omega-3 Fish Oil Skin Health Chews (90 ct): we could not find EPA and DHA amounts on the maker's website (checked 2026-10-13) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Pet Honesty Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil (pollock + salmon, 32 fl oz): the maker's 32 oz and 96 oz pages list different EPA and DHA figures (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Pet Wellbeing Omega-3 Icelandic Fish Oil for Dogs (8 fl oz pump): serving size conflicts between the maker's dog and cat listings; not verified (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Vetoquinol Triglyceride OMEGA Liquid Pump (8 fl oz, dogs and cats): the maker lists total fish oil per serving but not EPA and DHA (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Vetoquinol Triglyceride OMEGA softgels (medium breed, 1000 mg fish oil): the maker lists total fish oil per capsule but not EPA and DHA (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Vital Pet Life Fish Oil for Dogs and Cats (salmon + pollock, 64 fl oz): a search extract shows minimum EPA and DHA figures but the serving they apply to is unclear, and we could not open the maker page (checked 2026-10-13) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Vital Pet Life Salmon Oil for Dogs & Cats (32 fl oz): the published label figures are internally inconsistent (EPA and DHA exceed the stated total omega-3) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Zesty Paws Omega Bites Soft Chews, Bacon (90 ct): the maker's page gives no EPA and DHA amount per chew in the text we could read (checked 2026-10-13) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Zesty Paws Wild Alaskan Fish Oil (pollock, pump): we could not find EPA and DHA amounts on the maker's website (checked 2026-10-13) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
- Zesty Paws Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil (pollock + salmon, 16 fl oz pump): the maker's page gives marketing text without EPA and DHA amounts (checked 2026-10-13) (checked October 13, 2026), so we cannot rank it.
Which form is right?
Liquids are usually the most concentrated and easiest to adjust for a dog's size. Softgels are easy to count, but a large dog may need several. Chews are convenient, but the EPA and DHA per piece varies widely, and some makers publish no numbers. We compare them in liquid vs softgel vs chews.

Frequently asked questions
Can I give human fish oil to dogs?
Some people do, but human products are labeled for people, and extras such as flavorings or vitamins vary. If you are considering it, compare the EPA and DHA per capsule with the dog products in the table and ask your vet first. See our guide to human fish oil for dogs.
How long does it take for fish oil to help dogs?
We did not find a reliable fixed timeline, so we do not give one. Changes in skin and coat, if they happen, are hard to judge quickly. Give a product a steady, consistent run before judging it, and ask your vet how long to try before changing course.
Why do some brands not list EPA and DHA?
Some makers print only a fish oil volume or total omega-3. Without EPA and DHA you cannot compare products or work out a dose, so we list those products separately and do not rank them.
