PetFishOilGuide is not run by veterinarians and no page on this site has been checked by a veterinarian. Everything here is general information about fish oil products and published research. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan or a substitute for advice from a veterinarian who knows your animal.
- Ask your veterinarian before giving fish oil or any supplement, and before changing an amount.
- Talk to your veterinarian first if your pet takes medication (including blood thinners or NSAIDs), has a bleeding or clotting problem, pancreatitis, a digestive condition, kidney disease, is pregnant or nursing, is a puppy or kitten, or is due for surgery.
- Stop and contact your veterinarian if you see vomiting, diarrhea, unusual bleeding or bruising, or any other change that worries you. In an emergency, contact an emergency veterinary clinic or an animal poison control line.
The dose calculator
The dose calculator turns a published adult-dog range into the units printed on a product label. It is arithmetic, not a prescription. It does not know your dog's diet, health or medicines, and the food your dog already eats may contain EPA and DHA. Product information
We compare products by the EPA and DHA amounts that manufacturers publish on their labels and websites. We do not test products in a lab. Manufacturers change formulas, serving sizes and packaging, and a label can differ from what we recorded. Always read the label on the product you buy. If you find a number that is wrong or out of date, tell us through the contact page and we will check it.
